Lidl GB confirms the grand opening of its new store on St Chads Road on Thursday 17th September at 8am•

• award-winning in-store bakery and the famous ‘Middle of Lidl’ aisle

Lidl GB has confirmed that its first ever store in Tilbury will open on Thursday 17th September. The local community is invited to join the grand opening celebrations from 8:00am. There’ll be a ribbon cutting ceremony with students from St. Mary’s Catholic Primary School to officially mark Lidl as the newest member of the community.

In a boost to the local economy, the store has created up to 40 new jobs. Recruitment focused heavily on hiring people who live locally, ensuring the team serving shoppers are part of the fabric of Tilbury. For example, Lauren Burdett, will be one of the Store’s Managers and has worked with Lidl for over 25 years.

This opening marks the end of a careful planning process designed to ensure the new store is a perfect fit for the area. Beyond the shelves, the site has been designed with rooftop solar panels to generate up to 25% of the store’s electricity requirements, to ensure it is a positive addition for the community.

Lidl GB’s commitment to Tilbury goes beyond the checkout. In partnership with Neighbourly, the store will redistribute surplus food to local charities and food banks, through the Feed it Back scheme, ensuring fresh produce reaches those who need it most. 

With a 1,516m² sales area, shoppers will find everything they need for their weekly shop, including the award-winning in-store Bakery and the famous ‘Middle of Lidl’ aisle. To celebrate the opening, early birds will be treated to complimentary food sampling and exclusive deals on the Lidl Plus app.

The store will be open 8am - 10pm Monday to Saturday, and 10am - 4pm on Sunday.
